Magazine Research #3

USA Today Sports Weekly is a sports magazine that is widely read in the United States. This magazine is very informative and doesn't have as many "fluff pieces" and sports illustrated or ESPN might have. The cover is a lot more minimal. There is a cover photo of an athlete, the article title, and a few subheadings that tell you what's inside. The magazine has a lot of draft analysis's and stat trackers. They use a lot of images and do not over load the read with too much information .

Magazine Research #2

ESPN The Magazine is another very popular athletics magazine in the world. It has 1-2 million subscribers , but they have recently lost a lot based on certain political and highly controversial topics. The magazine has a similar template as Sports Illustrated. They constantly change their cover picture and have information that tells you about the articles that are inside of the current issue. They do this to lure people into reading/buying it. The table of contents is often creatively written and contains pictures in the background.

A popular sports magazine is Sports Illustrated.  This magazine company has 3 million subscribers and makes around 23 million dollars per week. The cover picture of the magazine is different every issue. Sometimes it is a popular athlete at the time or a very attractive model.  The magazine also comes out with different "themed" issues during the year.  This includes a swimsuit edition, World Cup, and Olympic. The magazine keeps the same layout for their cover every time. The only things that changes are the picture, and information based on the articles that are inside the magazine.

Project Selection- My Decision

For my Aice Media Studies project I have decided do make a magazine. I have chosen the magazine, because it is easier for me to write than it is for my to act and be creative in a film. I also decided to chose the magazine because more people pass with this type of project, instead of the film. I am doing the magazine with a student in my class and two other students in another class. The magazine will be on sports in Sarasota. Two people in my group will be doing interviews with athletes at our school and the other two will report on students at other schools or on local sports leagues.

Project Selection-Film

After watching many TV shows and movies in the past few weeks, I have gained a lot of knowledge about film making. I have learned that there is a lot more than just acting when it comes to the films. The music, camera angles, costumes, and script are all major factors of filming. I am able to think of new material quickly and that can help improvise with scenes, if it just goes poorly. I have also watched A LOT of movies and TV shows in my lifetime,so  I might have some "experience" that would help me for my project. But some issues I may run into would be the creative part of filming. I am not always good at coming up with original ideas, and my film would be a copy of another film.

Project Selection- Magazine

In print journalism, there is more to an article than just writing it. For every article in a newspaper or magazine a person has to take photographs and do research for information. This research may include interviews or just using google. Print journalism has interested me through the sources of movies and tv shows like "All the President's Men" and "The Newsroom." The constant struggle to find information and having to dig for the information really grasped my attention. I feel like I would be good at print journalism because of my persistence. This skill would allow me to keep striving to find information even if my leads hit a dead end. I would also be able to get information from others in interview. I would probably be challenged in the magazine, because I am not very creative and would be following/copying other magazines.
