3rd Quarter Submissions feedback

After showing  my product to the class, my magazine was a lot better than my first submission. Before I submit my magazine for grading I need to fix my pictures and margins in my article, and I need to incorporate page numbers and social media on the bottom of my pages.

Touch ups before 3rd quarter submission

I had deleted my previous pictures for my cover and TOC. After I replaced them with the pictures I had taken of August in the locker room before the game. This game my magazine a more authentic feel. I had also changed all of the text on my cover and content page to have a black outline. This allows the text to show more visible on the  page with the picture as my background.

Photoshoot #2

Before we took the field against our school rivals, we were just waiting in the locker room. I took this as a great opportunity to get some more pictures for my product. And as it turns out they were great. So good even others Aice Media Studies students started to do the same for their own projects. I plan on using these pictures for my cover page and my tables of contents.

1st "photoshoot"

Today before and after our spring workouts for football, we had taken pictures of August by himself and with fellow teammates. We only got a few good pictures because the sun was either too bright or it was dark outside. With all of these factors we still got a solid three photos I believe will work out perfectly in my article or on my cover page.

Finding locations for photoshoot

Today in class my partner and I had talked about places we could take pictures of each other for our magazines. We weren't able to settle on just one place. But one location  did come up multiple times, Tatem Ridge Elementary School. This is a location with a large sports field that is near both of our houses allowing for fast and easy travel. We will see how the photos turn out in the future or if we will get more pictures "in the spot," as we continue our sports grind.

Target Audience #2

My magazine will be targeting people of both genders and all races. The ages of said people will mostly be early high school to late college. This will allow the magazines to be filled with the newest current trends and gear. Though people of younger and older ages will also read the magazine so the writing will not be super out of date for them.

planning

We stayed after school when we were done with a football meeting on December 19th 2017. My partner and I had worked on our magazines by putting pictures and text into them. We mostly worked on the cover page and a little on the table of contents. This allowed the two pages to have backgrounds and show titles on what articles we have containing in our magazine.

Distribution Research #1

Sports magazines such as mine are distributed through stores of all kinds. They are also sold online. Though these magazines have been very successful and know people will buy them. So they have subscriptions too. This means people will sign up to have the magazine mailed to them. Magazines have to have a loyal fan base before doing so. The begining most magazines take is putting a few in assorted stores and seeing where they are bought the most then adding more or less from the best or worst selling stores.

Target Audience Research

Based on looking over Sports Illustrated cover, ads, and articles they seem to mostly target males but there are some female targeted features. The ages of my magazine will be around 15-24. These are the ages of early high school kids and later college kids. The magazine is mostly built around that skill level, so it only makes sense it would sell to the people of that age bracket.

Super Bowl Commercial Analysis

For my super bowl analysis we looked over a few advertisements in my Media Studies class. We had observed the "Tide ad", "Touchdown Celebrations to Come ad", and "Alexa lost her Voice Amazon ad." These three ads target many different age groups. The Tide advertisements targeted mid wealth adults at the ages of 25-40. The Touchdown ad was targeting mostly males from kids to old adults. This was an NFL ad that was to show the family and light hearted side of the game. The ad revolves around a dance from the movie 'Dirty Dancing.' This was used to draw out nastalgia in older people. The last ad was very humorous targeting all age groups as it used celebrities from the past 20 years.

Quarter 3 Submission

Image
In my 3rd quarter submission i had written more for my article, added two pictures with captions, and I turned the text into two columns on the Second Page. On my cover page and table of contents, I changed both of my background pics. I also changed the page numbers and added articles of my table of contents.

Question 4 Draft

I had used google and the websites on it to do research about other magazines that are the same type as my product. I had also used Microsoft Word to put my  pictures in my article. I did this to copy and paste them into the program InDesign. And InDesign is the hardware I used to actually make my whole magazine.

Question 3 Draft

My production skills had stayed mostly the same. I didn't get that amazing at InDesign and it showed. My picture designs had stayed pretty basic and didn't exemplify a tech savy student's skills. Though I did pick up a few little tricks, like text color and giving the words a black border to make the letters pop on the colored background.

Question 2 Draft

My magazine really communicates with the public/ readers. It keeps up with the current popular sports brands and trends all around the world. Our magazines are focused on high school to college level players, so our audience is mostly 14-24 year olds. Our magazine would be distributed in stores like Walmart, Dicks Sporting Goods, Publix, and Kroger. .

Question 1 Draft

My magazine doesn't take any political stances, it is just a magazine focused on sports in the high school to college levels. Really the only controversial part of my magazine is which athletic gear brand is the best.  My product used and challenged typical conventions. My magazine stayed inside the lines of typical expectations and contains player interviews and tips. My magazine also is filled with ads for clothing brands from the most popular athletic brands. But unlike most magazines my magazine has article comparing new gear from different brands and just straight up comparing two different brand names.
